Singer Feature: Rebekah del Rio

This weekend I rewatched Mulholland Drive for the first time in over 4 years! One of my favorite moments in the movie is the song “Llorando,” a Spanish version of “Crying” by Roy Orbison sung by the astounding Rebekah del Rio. (Fun fact! The film version of this song was recorded in ONE take!)

She also sings my favorite song from the #TwinPeaks return soundtrack, “No Stars”. This song was written in collaboration with David Lynch himself and again features the use of Spanish mixed with English.

Rebekah del Rio is a San Diego based singer with an impressive three octave range! Thanks to her involvement with David Lynch she shot into the spotlight in the world of film and can be heard on many soundtracks. She has a new album coming out in 2021 that I am really excited for! Rebekah is also the founder of the Phillip C. DeMars Foundation, a nonprofit organization in memory of her son who passed away from stage 4 sarcoma in 2009. PCDF that inspires hope through arts and music to children in underserved communities in Los Angeles.

Rewatching her incredible performance inspired me to get back to the piano and work on “Crying” myself! I am not a terribly accomplished pianist so this is a fun challenge for me. What are you challenging yourself with this week?
